A new program brought to the community by Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) and Dr. Hal Ott.  Cats are $35/30 (spay/neuter) and dogs are anywhere from $45 (neuter, under 25 lbs) to $70 (spay, 70 lbs and up).  You can't touch those prices!  Low cost vaccines are also available at the time of surgery.  Check them out, make an appointment or see who's up for adoption at CARE by going to their website at http://www.careshelter.org/
Do you know of a great vet, hospital or clinic that performs affordable spay/neuter surgery?  If so, we want to hear about them!  Our goal is to provide as much information as possible so that folks will be able to obtain this important surgery with as much convenience as possible.

What can we say about Ruskin Animal Hospital and Dr. Ott?  Not enough.  Not only is Ruskin a great hospital, but Dr. Ott and his staff might well be the absolute most caring people in the industry.  Dr. Ott has volunteered his clinic and his time for the ACT Spay Day, and his techs and assistants have put in time as well.  We also love them for the work they've done with the C.A.R.E. shelter, and let us not forget the copies of "Why Vegan?" we saw on the counter.
Harris Hospital (VetCare)

Tampa, FL

The Harris Hospital is another good option for spay/neuter surgery.  The folks at Harris are wonderful, and they work with one of the big rescue groups here in Tampa (a BIG plus in our book).

HSTB's clinic does what seems like a billion s/n surgeries each year.  They are experts in this field.  The only drawbacks are the hours of availability, and the seemingly endless backlog.  VOCAL called for a neuter on a small dog, and the next appointment was 2 months away.  Hopefully, they're just super busy and are completely booked fixing animals.

Low cost spay/neuter resources for Tampa Bay
Please note:  VOCAL doesn't endorse any of these vets or clinics unless otherwise detailed.  This listing is merely provided as a resource to help direct the individual to a convenient, cost effective alternative to high priced services.  VOCAL has received no money for these endorsements.  Voice of Compassion for Animal Life thanks each of these organizations for the positive work they do in making spay/neuter surgery affordable.

Oak Tree is probably the best local alternative to the Humane Society Spay/Neuter Clinic.  The prices are right about the same (the last dog we had neutered there cost about $82 for the neuter, parvo/distemper shots and antibiotics).  One of our foster pups was a neuter bargain at $35.  Not only is the price right, but Oak Tree can probably fit your companion in for surgery very soon.
