Thomas Jefferson and Paulette McMillan charged with Dog Fighting

Thomas Jefferson and Paulette Mcmillan were busted Wednesday, July 23rd for staging, participating in, allowing, and gambling during a dog fighting event here in Tampa (specifically 3203 E. 22nd St).  This home is owned by Luverne Jefferson, who may be Thomas' mom or grandmother.  The story from the Tampa Tribune follows the sig below.

Thomas Jefferson is no stranger to the law.  This most recent bust breaks down in the following charges:

1.  Fighting animals, Felony 3rd
2.  Possession of dog fighting para., Felony 3rd
3.  Operating a facility for animal baiting (providing fighting venue), Felony 3rd
4.  Betting upon/taking money for gambling on animal fighting, Misdemeanor 1st

Whoa!  Nice job, Tommy boy.  Together with your prior arrests for such things as possession of cocaine (multiple charges!), possession of cannibis, obstruction of an officer, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (multiple), trafficking in cocaine, battery (multiple), burglary, aggravated battery with great bodily harm, domestic violence, shooting into an occupied dwelling, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon...and this all goes back only to 1990!  How many felonies will this individual have to commit, be charged with, be tried for, convicted for, etc, before he has a permanent parking spot in the Federal Pen?  Animal cruelty may be the final strike against you, Thomas, and VOCAL will be happy to promote that idea.

Paulette (the article states her last name as McMullen, but we've discovered it's actually McMillan) McMillan isn't your ideal citizen either.  Her current charges are for:
1.  Animal fighting, Felony 3rd
2.  Obstruction, Misdemeanor 1st
3.  Attending animal fight, Misdemeanor 1st

She has prior arrests for a plethora of good examples of what you don't want your kids to grow up to do.  Let's try possession of cocaine (multiple), possession of cocaine with intent to sell,  aggravated child abuse and more driving on a suspended license charges than you can shake a stick at.  Again, that's a lot of felonies to have been cuffed for.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Please write letters, make calls, send faxes/e-mails to the State Attorney pertaining to these matters (no judge has been assigned to this case at this time, and is pending 1st Appearance):

The case numbers are:
Thomas Jefferson, Case Number 03-CF12732
Paulette McMillan, Case Number 03-CF12462

Please ask that these miscreants be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  Ask that they seek a sentence of life in prison under the "3 Strikes" penalty.  Both individuals have proven to be a blight and a draw upon society, and it cannot be tolerated any further.  Additionally, a Letter to the Editor of the Tampa Tribune may be in order.  You can send one online here.

VOCAL will also request that Luverne Jefferson be charged with aiding in these crimes.  The pit (fighting ring) appeared well established, and had obviously been used before.  VOCAL also believes that her home should be seized by the State and sold at auction to compensate the taxpayers for having to front the bill to prosecute these individuals.  If you want to play the game, be ready to pay the price.  Luverne's home is at 3203 E. 22nd St in Tampa, Florida.  The Folio number is 174831-0000, and the short legal description is Lot 7, Block 7, Little Cuba.  We'll be contacting her mortgage company, and letting them know what's going on at her home in which they have a secured interest.  La Trinacria, Inc owns the home that Ms. McMillan lives in.  We'll suggest they set up a "For Rent" sign soon...

According to the booking numbers, even in the Big House, it's ladies first.

Additionally, both folks are out on bail.  VOCAL isn't suggesting contacting the neighbors, as this established pit is obviously not a concern.  Dog fighting can't really occur in a neighborhood like this without a blind eye being turned by those that might see it...except for one anonymous tipster (thanks!).

In closing, allow us to paint a picture.  Dogs, at one time, full of puppy playfulness, love and innocense, being led away on catch poles, scarred and bleeding from their wounds.  Their fate?  Death.  They won't be adopted, they won't be rehomed.  They will be euthanized as they are deemed vicious, fighting animals, without worth or value.  Their lives have been Hell...a Hell imposed by those that would seek to profit from their torment; a Hell imposed by those that would seek to gain status or  enjoyment from their suffering.  And now, and only now, will their suffering end.  Now, picture that one one of them is your dog...

These dogs won't have their sorrows read in court.  They won't be asked to testify.  They can't take the stand.  Please, speak for them...
