Hideaway Kennel cruel to dogs...4 charged

Recently, Hideaway Kennel, a breeding and boarding facility in Polk County, Florida was busted for the hideous treatment of a number of their poodles.  The full story follows the signature below.  38 poodles were turned over to Florida Poodle Rescue, and due to their condition, 9 had to be euthanized, and many more will require long-term rehabilitation.  4 people were arrested as a result.  Their names and case numbers are as follows:

Terry Fraley
CF03-003498XX

Brenda Fraley
CF03-003499xx

Betty Lowe
CF03-003500xx

Paula Smith, the alleged ringleader of this cast of nasties has not been assigned a case number as of yet.  When we receive this information, we'll pass it along to you.  You can, however, express your disgust with Ms. Smith by contacting her via phone or e-mail:
Her phone number is 863-676-1987 (phone) or 863-679-9876 (fax).
Her e-mail address is CamelotHideaway@webtv.net

VOCAL was also intrigued to find that there is no record with the State of Florida Secretary of State as to any business, incorporated or fictitious, with the name of Hideaway Kennel having been registered.  The official records of Polk County alone show Hideaway Kennel being in business back until at least 1991.  We certainly hope that they've been paying their taxes and other license fees.

*All parties be barred from being in the presence of animals at any point in the future;
*All parties be disallowed from ever engaging in any business, or working for any business in the grooming, boarding or breeding industries;
*That the property that Hideaway Kennels is located on, be seized and auctioned, having been used in the commission of a felony.  The property info is:
ID Number:  272914-860590-000803
Folio Number:  03210150000

Once again, we believe that those folks living in the area of this alleged abuse should be made aware of the situation in their community.  You may choose to enlighten those folks living around this property.  Remember, these individuals have been charged, not convicted as of yet.  Here are the neighbors:

38 Neglected Poodles Lead To 4 Arrests

Published: May 24, 2003

LAKE WALES - Thirty-eight poodles suffering from severe neglect led to the arrest Friday of four people, each charged with 38 counts of felony cruelty to animals, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said. Terry Fraley, 61; Brenda Fraley, 52; and Betty Lowe, 43; all of 4553 N. Scenic Highway; and Paula Smith, 62, 4549 N. Scenic Highway, all of Hideaway Kennels, were arrested about 4 p.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Michal Shanley said.
They turned over 38 poodles to Florida Poodle Rescue on May 7, Shanley said. The dogs were suffering from severe periodontal disease, many with tumors and abscesses and one with a lower jaw missing, Shanley said.
Some of the dogs couldn't eat or drink, and nine had to be euthanized, Shanley said.
Each of the suspects was being held Friday in Polk County Jail, with bail set at $38,000 for each.
